This afternoon I was welcomed with open arms at the Shuffleboard club. Shuffleboard is an initiative of Community Care Northumberland, who paid for the 2 shuffleboard mats and there are 2 shuffleboards drawn on the floor of the Community Centre. They play Tuesdays from 1-3pm, 4 games.

Their motto seems to be” It’s about the fun of the game, not the winning of the game”.

They started out the meeting today with an announcement; a member expressed his concerns about the potential loss of the Trenton hospital and a group in Quinte West is trying to get organized to lobby against the closure (or skeleton operation) of the hospital. He was the only Brighton citizen that attended.

Afterwards it was all about the fun of the game.

In total 16 people can play at once. Today the club counted 12 people plus the organizer, Doug. The age of the current members ranges from mid-forties to early-90. Everyone plays their own game and a tablet decides which color and where a player plays.
After each game it is noted who won and lost. At the end of the season the person who won the most games gets a token of having won the most games. Their season runs from September until Mid-April. The fee is $40 for the entire season and $20 for people that join after Christmas. People can give it a try for free.

So many things organized in our town! So many dedicated Volunteers!

A video Doug made about the Shuffleboard Club in 2013!
The song is appropriate and catchy!
