I took these from the air around 1980??
The islands were starting to lose their trees and vegetation due to the cormorants. Eventually they did become overpopulated and the land bare. One island has not returned as yet. Many species appeared to have suffered along with the greenery that thrived on the islands. At one time I believe they were part of a farm. The water levels changed over the years from the St Lawrence Seaway controls and nature. You can walk to the
islands now, although not permitted during spring and summer.
More history about the islands is likely available from one of the local experts like the 'history guy' Dan Buchanan, Susan Brose or Presqu'ile Interpretive Centre.
