Mr.Bird joined ENSS in 1957 as a teacher and retired as vice principal in 1987. Mr. Bird was the chair of the ENSS 60th Reunion Committee, but what you may not know of Mr.Bob Bird is that during the entire preparation and organization of the ENSS 60th Reunion Mr. Bird was dealing with health issues, sometimes enlisting the assistance of a walker to get around. Was I surprised to see him during the Reunion! He looked strong, in charge and happy. He was, as chair, everywhere; on all the stages, talking with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, among the retired staff, alumni and dancers.
Then, when the reunion was over on Sunday afternoon, the organizers were returning drinks and beer bottles to the beer store while I was at the Hospice Hike. Who walks out of the store with a smile, looking content and helping out? Yes, Mr. Bob Bird. What an amazing and dedicated man.
It is obviously from the past year and during the reunion that for Mr. Bird ENSS is very important. The reunion seemed to have been the best thing that could have happened in the past year for Mr. Bird. At the same time his presence at the Reunion represented ENSS past as nothing else could have done.
